 +====== 18th August 2012 - Cog Set "Join in Local Sport" ======

 +\\
 +On Saturday 18th August 2012 Salt Ayre Cog Set Youth Cycling Club participated in a national campaign called “Join In Local Sport” to encourage new participants in sport on the back of the success of the London Olympics.  Many sports embraced this national campaign and had their own branded events. Cog Set joined in with British Cycling to offer a Go Ride Games Event.\\

 +Despite the rain, which could have easily put new people off, spirits were not dampened with 10 new participants joining in this fun, cycling taster session.  The day’s activities included an option for riders to experience road racing and or mountain biking. Those choosing the road racing option on Salt Ayre’s closed circuit track, enjoyed a morning of cycling fun and skills development, became more confident about cycling in a group and then enjoyed the thrills of an Italian Pursuit race at the end of the session with four teams of mixed abilities racing to a close finish.  The MTB riders challenged themselves to a testing course of obstacles including ramps/chicanes/drop offs and downhill slaloms. After some initial coaching, riders pitched themselves against each other to experience the thrill of MTB racing through the mud and rain.\\
 +\\
 +Both groups of young people consisted of some future young talent and allowed them to experience this ever increasingly popular sport. \\
