As we are now approaching the start of the CycloCross Season we are going to be doing some off road coaching sessions, from Saturday 4th September. If your child doesn't have a cross or mountain bike please don't worry, we have several club bikes that can be pre-ordered from Sharon Johnson or we will still have coaching sessions on the track, but the more the merrier to join in the fun!
CycloCross is a mixture of Road race and Mountain biking. You race on a road styled bike with knobbly tyres but on an all terrain course (mountain bikes can also be used). There can be tarmac, off road, steep hills, single track, running with your bike, planks to jump over and steps to run up! All in all great fun for all!!
The Club will also be relocating (location TBA) on Saturday 11th September for the CDNW CycloCross event. Come and join in the fun at the first cross race of the season!!
Usually there aren’t as many children attend this round compared with the road rounds, so there’s a chance of getting some we earned points!! Enjoy!!
The North West CycloCross Association league races start as of the 18th September, check out their website for full details. http://www.nwcca.org.uk/ Or Download Summary of NWCCA CycloCross Events - 2010

If you are New to Racing download an_introduction_to_racing_by_matt_winston.pdf
It is a little out of date - but still has some very useful information
If you would like to enter CDNW Series of Races , you need to do the following:
1) Become a member of British Cycling.
Visit https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/web/site/BC/bcf/bcApplicationFormTmp.asp?promo=none
and claim your free ‘bronze membership’ (please make sure you enter club details as ‘Salt Ayre Cog Set – not Salt Ayre Cycling Association).
2) CDNW (Cycling Development North West)
Visit www.cdnw.org - ‘CDNW youth league’ download and complete British Cycling Entry Form and forward with your payment. (It costs less if you register for CDNW races in advance)
3) Correct Gear Restrictions
If you are new to racing, you need to check your gearing is set correctly for the race you are entering - see gear restrictions or speak to one of the coaches for guidance
In case some of you are confused here is a quick guide to the gear restrictions for youth racing.
If you want to compete in circuit races you will need the following Gear Restrictions.
These restrictions should apply to all mass start races you take part in (I.E. not time trials). At most races you will be asked to have your gears checked before you sign on If you are found to be over geared you will have to rectify the problem before you are allowed to race. When going for gear checks the person checking the gears will probably appreciate it if you have your bike set in the highest gear you can (this helps make the check quicker).
N.B for the Tuesday night racing at salt ayre the rules on gear checks are relaxed slightly so if you have not yet got your gears restricted don't be put off however it is best to get on the correct gear so you are used to it for the next level of racing
